Islay’s ‘Phoney Book’ and an entrepreneurial adventure

In an innovative move, Islay and Jura Council of Voluntary Service (CVS) is inviting groups of pupils at Islay High School to tender to redesign, produce and sell the ‘Phoney Book’ – a local telephone directory it has produced for twenty years. John Davidson of Islay CVS says that, with several groups seeking funding, the pupilscould make more money by producing the ‘Phoney Book’ than they would get through handouts.

Islay and Jura CVS was recently given £5,750 by Awards For All and this will go towards the production of the directory. CVS administration will support the successful group of pupils, which will be able to sub-contract aspects of design and production to other groups if they wish.
