Opening of new hide at Bute’s Ettrick Bay

There is a special event on 24th January at Ettrick Bay on Bute. It’s being run in connection with the RSPB’s 30th anniversary Big Garden Birdwatch which For Argtll has reported on below.

The new hide is being opened, RSPB staff will be there to help in identifying birds, answering wildlife-related questions and telling people about the wildlife and healthy living initiative run through the Bute Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Pioneer satellite tracking of Mull’s young sea eagles

A pioneering satellite system tagging Mull’s young white-tailed sea eagles when they leave the nest has been introduced by RSPB with Mull Eagle Watch. People all over the world will be able to get online interactive updates on this years chicks from the Loch Frisa nest and see where the birds are.

There were two chicks this year, fledged in mid-July – a male called Mara (meaning ‘sea’ in Gaelic) and a female Breagha (‘Bree-ha’, meaning ‘beautiful’ in Gaelic). Young sea eagles fly strong and far but visitors to the Loch Frisa hide can still see the birds until the end of August. But armchair twitchers anywhere – and those whose spirits lift in seeing these great predators – can now, in this magical development, follow Mara’s and Breagha’s tracks to Speyside, or where their fancy takes them. Get tracking.
