And you didn’t hear about it? Not surprising, this one had a limit of 70 and the management at Inver Cottage were worried if they advertised the gig they would be swamped.
In fact they withdrew an Ad in the Dunoon Observer, fearing it would bring hundreds more than would be able to get in.
    As it [...]

  • How can you remain impervious to online threat? , 11 Apr 2010 in Community News&Media&Technology & Web

    And still use Microsoft Windows?
Unless you are a geek, the panoply of options that Windows offers to hackers wanting to hijack your PC is intimidating. The range of anti-virus software doesn’t help, not least because a good proportion of it actually contains the viruses themselves.
Frankly, to use XP, Vista or 7 is considered an invitation [...]

We’ve now got ourselves a Chimp, a mailchimp to be precise.
He’s a cute little fellow who resides virtually on a server somewhere over the other side of the pond. And he’s available to us to send out emails to subscribers on a weekly basis. We’ve just sent out our first, announcing that after a short [...]

  • iPad vs tablet: a ForArgyll Survey , 05 Apr 2010 in Arts & Culture&Community News&Media&Technology & Web&Tourism

We asked several people in Argyll today what they would choose: an iPad or tablet? On the one hand an undoubtedly desirable piece of hi-tech consumer gadgetry, on the other a very consumable block that’s nutritionally questionable, but undoubtedly sugary. Of course the latter won. Half those surveyed hadn’t a clue as to what an [...]

  • ForArgyll.com to charge £1 for a day’s access … , 01 Apr 2010 in Community News

The Times and the Sunday Times announced last week that they would have a pay wall. And no, we’re not serious. We see the idea of a daily or weekly charge as a huge drag against growing an audience. We don’t need it –

  • Is Argyll Shooting itself in the foot? , 27 Mar 2010 in Arts & Culture&Business&Business&Community&Community News&Regeneration&Theatre&Tourism&Tourism activities

Many may complain how difficult it is to make a living in Argyll, but when we award business to firms and individuals outside Argyll aren’t we contributing to that unsustainability?
With experience in two sectors, the creative and the voluntary, I see this happen again and again. Local suppliers being discounted in favour of external ones. [...]

  • Ten Tested Steps to Un-Throttled CPUs , 26 Mar 2010 in For Argyll&Media&Technology & Web

Warning for the general reader: this is a semi-technical article for WPMU admins and WordPress users hosting their own sites on services such as Bluehost.
We’ve just run into this problem, and we’ve solved it. Completely. The site which was running slowly is now bouncing along at an unflappable rate, and we still have a strategy [...]
