Let’s get another circle put colours on it and the pesky Scots will disapear! What we have 4 wheels already?

What was the snp % ? Seem to have missed that! Doesn’t quite make sense. Oh producing UK / RUK figures then mixing it up with Scotland only results. Do I detect a fit of pique?

  • That’s clearer.

By Jon Craig, Sky Chief Political Correspondent

Labour has been rocked by a new opinion poll in Scotland suggesting the SNP has almost doubled its lead in the past month.

More than half of voters certain to take part (52%), said they would vote SNP, against 24% backing Labour. A month ago the figures were 46% and 30%.

The poll is a severe blow for Labour’s Scottish leader Jim Murphy, who has been energetic in his efforts to clawback support for Labour from the SNP.

    • Energetic perhaps, but he’s utterly failed to grasp why these voters are deserting, or is unable to do anything about it, which is at least part of the problem; people perceive scottish labour as a branch office of HQ in London.

    • NCH – have you taken the time to look at the poll a little closer? As they say ‘the devil is in the detail’!

The overall figures show a breakdown of those 978 sampled as follows:

      Conservative – 7% (69)
      Labour – 14% (139)
      Libdem – 3% (30)
      SNP – 29% (286)
      Greens – 2% (19)
      Undecided – 29% (282)
      Refused – 6% (58)
      Would not vote – 9% (90)

As you continually tell us the polls are accurate it would appear only 29% of the Scottish electorate intend to vote for the SNP.

  • Certainly looks like the SNP are going to do rather well

53 out of 59 would be a rather impressive prediction and this latest poll shows how totally out of touch the Labour party are in Scotland.

Sturgeon is right when she says she’ll help London Labour find some guts and a backbone. And it’s not just Scots who agree with this.

Yes, and there are many south of the border who agree.

    • Graeme – the polls! In reality would you accept they aren’t looking very good for the SNP in the medium to long term?

With them only running at 29% for the SNP after three years of hard campaigning surely there must be a feeling of disappointment within the party.

Before the campaign for independence began the SNP were running at 31 – 32%, what’s gone wrong?

Your ‘clever’ wee jibe employing stereotyped images of vulnerable people does neither your arguments, nor your party any favours at all.

All it does is to increase the stigma that these folk suffer every day of their lives.

Can I suggest that you refrain from such cheap jibes in future!

    • I am not having a cheap jibe at vulnerable PEOPLE, and well you know it.
It is you trying to take a stance, using that subject to score a cheap point.
You failed. Desperate politicking, you should be ashamed.

For John M and Richard to post such nonsense on such a regular basis and make it personal, as you are also trying to do, is going to bring a reaction on such a right wing blog from those of a different view. Accept it or not.
Richard’s latest is that I am “one of lives losers”
Go on Bob, chastise him for such nonsense, or does his right wing agenda fall into your area of politics you being Murphy’s man in Argyll.
This blog is crap, an indulgence. It needs balanced, I make an effort with others to create that balance.
It is also entertainment, tongue in cheek, fun and not worth bothering about in an academic way. Suck it and see.

      • Keitho,
I am not trying to make any political point. I work with vulnerable adults and see, on a daily basis, how these sort of comments just reinforce people’s prejudices and make life more difficult for those who already have more problems than most of us would care to imagine.

I am sorry to see that you take this as a party political comment on my behalf. It was not meant that way. It is a huge issue for me – above party politics.

In this election I am aware that most parties (including the SNP) have recognised that Mental Health is an area where much improvement is needed and I am delighted to see that it is getting much needed publicity (and, hopefully, funding) as a result.

Perhaps I was rather harsh in the way I commented on your piece. Before I worked in this field I was as likely as anyone else to make similar ‘clever’ comments to yours. I hope I have learned my lesson. I also hope that you can find it in yourself to do the same.

        • So Bob,
If I had asked John M “which planet he lived on” that would be ok?

Instead I expanded on it for effect, to highlight how stupid his analysis was.

There was, never has or never will be a mocking of any style of any vulnerable person or community from me.
My politics are driven by a socialist outlook and a Christian Faith that cares for everyone.
I will stand my ground and debate on hard issues with anyone.

  • Lundavra, the polls are all over the place because the SNP are trying to manipulate them, (remember Joan’s memo) the problem is they really don’t know where they are at themselves.
Now a little bombshell from the Conservatives, EVEL, to me it looks as though the Conservatives will be happy to give Scotland full fiscal autonomy as demanded by Ms Sturgeon, and they are laying the groundwork for it, the SNP may suddenly find they’ve got what they demanded and rUK has off loaded more than one issue.

      • I could give you a snippet of what’s happening on the ground. It’s rather funny.

At a hustings, I asked the SNP candidate what he would do to try tackle the gambling issues Scotland faces. The Labour candidate came up with two key policies.

The SNP didn’t come up with one, he waffled on that if you tackle poverty, you tackle gambling (actually, that was the Tory line and he went first!). No policy, seemed to accept there was nothing you could do. Fair enough – I thought the SNP with their obsession with legislation would have been on top of this…

The lack of any commitment to do anything about gambling might be explained by this….

That’s one thing happening on the ground!
