Baillie on latest figures for Royal Alexandra Hospital A&E waiting times

Commenting on the latest weekly figures for A&E waiting times at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, achieved after the department was put into Special Measures by the Scottish Government, local MSP Jackie Baillie says: ‘The latest figures show that waiting times are still being missed.

‘Such was the challenge at the RAH that specialist teams had to be called in to deal with the SNP’s A&E crisis.

‘However, it is clear that the staff still need more support as despite this, targets are still being missed. 18% of patients are waiting over 4 hours in A&E and some people are forced to wait longer than 8 hours.

‘I know that the staff at the RAH are doing everything they can to help patients, but they are not getting the right support from the Scottish Government. ‘

  • And the Labour Party answer as espoused recently by Ed Milliband is to privatise the NHS – whilst saying they will cap corporate profits.

Now that’s a joke when you consider the privatised utilities such as gas, electricity and water – or the cap on banker’s bonuses.

And we saw tragically what happened in the Vale of Leven hospital where Jackie’s party privatised hospital cleaning.

And with Labour luminaries like Alistair Darling earning tens of thousands on the side for advising private healthcare With a record like this, one would think Ms Baillie would hang her head in shame. But no – she has no shame.

Well here’s a message for Ms Baillie and her neo-con party chums – we don’t want your NHS privatisation and more corporate profit.

The changes are well thought out and will force hospitals and care providers to work together for the betterment of both NHS and patients.

        • So you believe this is working well at the moment and will get even better?
More to the point NHS Scotland is fully devolved, NHS England has continuously received additional funding and the pro rata increase to Scotland through the Barnett formula has not been passed on, secondly the SNP fiscal policy means the end of the Barnett formula so all funding will have to come from the Scottish government, unless there is a change of policy I do not see how the increased funding required will be available without higher taxation, a reduction in free healthcare and councils having to cut care for the elderly.
It seems to me that the ‘virtual ward’ and care in the community is in chaos thus leading to so called bed blocking.
I look forward to your suggestions.

  • If you do not understand what NHS privatisation is Jamie then you should contact your Labour Party Luminaries who are promoting it.

Based upon Mr Miliband’s utterances last week he said that he wants private companies to come in and run parts of the health service.

Private companies have allegiance to delivering profit and have quite a different focus than a state owned and run service.

And profit taken out of the service is money taken out of the service.

But you know all this Jamie as does your Labour Party.

Out of touch completely with the people the red Tories I suspect are in for a big shock in May.

Folks in Scotland want an NHS – and that’s what they’ll vote for.

  • What does it matter if a private company runs parts of it, providing it’s free and delivers the required standard? You’re paranoid and over emotional about this.

The amount of waste and inefficiencies in the NHS is staggering and needs addressed. If allowing private companies means addressing these efficiencies, then I would imagine that’s something you would also support?

Nothing to do with Labour, this is to do with getting value for money. This is about making every penny spent on the NHS maximised. This is about streamlining, joining up and getting rid of the dead wood where required.

You fell right into the trap – you confuse HOW the NHS is run with WHAT the NHS delivers. Privitisation as you describe does nothing to threaten the latter.

Wake up, face reality and get onboard – the NHS needs a shakeup and you should support it.

    • ah willie, how it must be be of your mindset. You typify the nationalist view on the NHS. You try tale debate and personalise because you are incapable of any serious discussion on the matter.

I’m talking about the organisation and running of the NHS. The staff ‘on the ground’ do, in my experience, sterling work. But as a whole, the NHS is shambolically organised, disjointed and mismanaged.

You and your SNP cronies cannot face the realities the NHS is under. You think throwing money at it solves the issue, and therein lies the fundamental issue – money alone will not fix it. A fundamental review and reorganisation is what is needed. Ruth Davidson is the only politician in Scotland who has given this serious thought. Meantime the population have to suffer meaningless squabbling between Labour and the SNP.

Next time you’re waiting on treatment, you’ll have plenty time and opportunity to contemplate how things could improve -saving money whilst at the same time improving the experience for patient – both things are entirely compatible….

  • The blame of this could be laid at multiple doors for repeated failure to protect and indeed advance the NHS services in this area.

Tell me this, is there some way to get the geographical data from these figures as to who attended the RAH from North of the water and South? Wonder how that would change those figures if the Vale of Leven had an A & E again?
