Tony Blair’s nomination to Save the Children for this annual award – which is for his anti-poverty campaigning – came ‘from our American partners’ – and we all know just why they owe Blair.
This is man whose action in taking the United Kingdom into an illegal war with Iraq in 2003, knowing that the reasons he gave for it – that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction – was not true.
This is the man who used the United Kingdom – validated the American will to invade Iraq by allying with it Britain’s reputation for some sort of integrity.
This is the man whose action led to the deaths of 179 British service personnel – and led to the UK becoming for the first time a front line target of international Islamist terrorism.
What about the children of the many parents amongst those 179 who died? From what precisely did Tony Blair save those children?
From what did he save Gunner Lee Rigby’s son, Jack, with his father, in a horrifically barbaric act, beheaded in public by two Islamist terrorist assassins in broad daylight on the streets of London?
From what did Tony Blair save the deliberately uncounted children and their families who died in Iraq under the ‘Shock and Awe’ barrage that set out to ‘bomb them back into the dark ages’?
Tony B;air has a direct responsibility for the lives of all of these children.
This award is an abuse of the very notion of saving children from anything.
Mr Blair’s major efforts in anti-poverty campaigning have been directed at making sure that neither he nor any of his family down the generations to come will ever get anywhere near poverty.
He has certainly left a ‘global legacy’ but not one to be honoured in any award – and never by Save the Children.
