Police would like to warn residents to be very wary of door to door callers offering to carry out work on houses or gardens.
Sergeant Iain MacNicol says: ‘I would like to remind people to be vigilant in respect of traders coming to their door offering to carry out work. My advice would be not to agree to any payment for ad hoc work and certainly not to let such people in to their house or view the back garden. If people want work done, they should contact a reputable and recommended firm who will give a quote. I would also urge people to look out for their elderly relatives and neighbours and ensure they are reminded not to hand over any money without contacting a relative, Trading Standards or Police for advice.’
