Diageo ramps up spend on lobbying US government

abc news has an interesting story of the extent to which global drinks giant, Diageo, the single biggest owner of Scotch whisky production, has progressively increased its spend on lobbying the US government from the first quarter of 2009, through the last quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010.

The article in question also identifies the issues on which the company lobbied government and major departments of state.

Given its vociferous opposition to the Scottish Government’s proposed minimum pricing of alcohol and to the UK Government’s interest in the same measure, it would be interesting to know what Diageo’s lobbying spend has been in the UK over the past 15 months.

It will also be interesting to see what each of these two governments lobbied eventually does in this regard.
