Oban lifeboat on shout to yacht aground in Sound of Mull

At 13:09 on Wednesday 27th April, Stornoway Coastguard requested the launch of Oban RNLI Lifeboat, Mora Edith MacDonald. to assist a yacht aground in Scallastle Bay in the Sound of Mull.

The volunteer crew were paged immediately and the lifeboat was able to leave Oban Bay shortly afterwards.

Whilst en route information was received from Stornoway Coastguard that the two sailors on board the yacht had managed to refloat the vessel.

A local boat was standing by awaiting the arrival of the lifeboat in case the vessel began to take on water as a result of the grounding.

At 13:35 Oban Lifeboat was on scene and alongside the yacht. As soon as it was ascertained that there was no water ingress and that the engine and steering were undamaged by the event, the skipper of the yacht was happy to continue on passage to Tobermory.

Oban Lifeboat then returned to station and was ready for service again at 14:25.
