Inveraray & District Pipe Band – along with Fife Police pipe band – were invited to Norfolk in Virginia to perform in their International Tattoo alongside bands from Canada and the USA.
After 3 days of rehearsals, the band played in 8 shows along with many other bands and performers.
On 23rd April the Tattoo organisers also held the inaugural Virginia International Tattoo American Pipe Band Championships – which was won by Inveraray & District in Grade 1, and by Metro New York in Grade 2. A total of eight bands, four each in Grade 1 and Grade 2, competed.
The contest was held at Scope Plaza in mostly sunny conditions – until there was a severe weather warning with sudden strong winds. Half-inch hail stones were predicted so the plaza was evacuated and the Grade 1 Medley was held in the Scope Arena. The closing massed bands were able to be held outdoors when the storm had passed.
Pipe Major, Stuart Liddell says: ‘We’d like to thank the organisers for inviting us to their wonderful event.
‘With daily rehearsals and shows we were able to put in some good performances and hopefully this will help our preparation for the forthcoming competition season.’
Argyll will share that hope.
In the 2015 World Pipe Band Championships Inveraray and District Grade 1 band played their considerable best, with many expecting them to emerge the winners.
It will happen. Will it be in 2016?
