ITV’s Political Editor, Robert Peston, has told Tom Bradby on News at 10 tonight, that Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are on the brink of declaring for Brexit.
Neither are apparently convinced that the Prime Minister’s deal with the EU – which has not yet been approved – gets anywhere near the sort of recovery of British sovereignty each wants to see.
The story from the well connected Peston is likely to be secure.
The question is whether the two can still be turned to the Cameron view. Peston said that he had been told that there was nothing anyone could do now to persuade them differently.
Should the two come out for the Vote Leave campaign, they could make a substantial difference to the odds for an ‘out’ vote.
Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, might be advised to start getting her story straight as to why she refuses to hold a second referendum on Scottish independence when the UK votes by an overall majority to leave the EU, while Scotland, by a majority, votes to stay in it.
Because you can bet she will do just that.
