Argyll & Bute Liberal Democrats held their Annual General Meeting in Inveraray on Saturday 28th November.
The meeting was attended by Alan Reid, the candidate for Argyll & Bute constituency n the May 2016 Scottish Election; and by Jamie Stone, whom the party has placed top of its Regional List canditates for the Highlands and Islands in the same election.
Jamie Stone was MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross for 12 years before standing down in 2011. Alan Reid welcomed Jamie to the meeting and said that, as a Highland Councillor and a former MSP, he had the skills and experience necessary to represent the Highlands & Islands in the Scottish Parliament.
Jamie Stone told the meeting that the feedback he was receiving on the campaign trail showed that the Liberal Democrats are on the way back and he was looking forward to visiting many places throughout Argyll & Bute during the campaign.
Alan Reid said that the main theme of the Liberal Democrat campaign would be empowering people and communities and reversing the centralisation of power that had taken place during the SNP’s time in government at Holyrood.
He called for more local control of services such as the Police and the NHS; and for a speeding up of the roll-out of broadband and mobile phone coverage to all parts of Argyll & Bute.
Note: The photograph above, taken on the Inveraray waterfront after the AGM with some of the delegates and the two candidates present shows Jamie Stone, second from the right in the front row and the familiar Alan Reid, Argyll and Bute’s former MP, third from the right in the front row. And spotted in the centre front row beside Alan Reid, is former Liberal Democrat Leader of Argyll and Bute Council, a very cheery Alison Hay.
