Thrilling end to Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship – and 2016 dates for Mach 1 Stages and Mull Rally

The Blackwood Plant Hire Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship has experienced one of its most exciting seasons ever.

The final event of 2015 took place at the hugely popular Kingdom Stages event at Crail in Fife. Organised by Glenrothes Motor Sport Club, with the support of sponsors Curvy Kit sponsors, this ultimate race to the podium was on the much-loved 60-mile route at Crail Airfield.

With a maximum rally entry, the winners were John Rintoul and Ross Hynd; with Bruce Edwards and Jim Smith coming in second; and Gary and Gordon Adam third.

The season’s overall champions had already been decided going into Crail, with John Marshall and Scott Crawford taking the prestigious title as 2015 STRC champions in their Mk2 Escort.

Second and third places, however, went to the wire, with Nigel Feeney in his class 5 Subaru Impreza securing second place honours in front of Ross Carbry in his class 1 Vauxhall Corsa.

Rounding off the 2015’s events will be the Awards Ceremony. This year the prestigious black tie event and prize giving is being held at the Lovat Hotel in Perth on Saturday, December 5. However, with engines barely cooled and excitement still revving in the air, there will be no
time lost in looking ahead to next year’s Championship. And, if anything, 2016 promises to be even bigger and even better.

David Hatrick, Dunfermline Car Club committee member – and engine of the hugely successful Mach 1 Stages Rally at the former RAF Airbase at Machrihanish near Campbeltown in Kintyre, David Hatrick, says: ‘2015 has been an exciting year to be involved in this sport. There were many highlights, especially the second ever Mach 1 stages at Machrihanish in Kintyre.

‘There have also been some exceptionally sad occasions with the passing of Rally friends.

This is a sport that is loved deeply by all those involved, however, and we are confident that, as a family, we will continue to make this sport seriously good fun – and, just as importantly, trive to ensure it is safer than ever.

‘On behalf of all the clubs involved in the Blackwood Plant Hire Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to 2015’s sponsors Blackwood Plant Hire.

‘Looking to the future, it’s a pleasure to confirm that Blackwood Plant Hire have decided to continue their support throughout 2016. Not only does the sponsorship help so many of us enjoy our wonderful sport, but Tom Blackwood brings his own passion, enthusiasm and
energy to the events.’

Based in the Ayrshire, Blackwood Plant Hire is one the leading plant hire companies in the country. Managing Director Tom Blackwood, a self-confessed Ford fanatic, is certainly no stranger to the rallying circuit himself. He says: ‘There are many highs and lows in motorsport but it’s been an immense privilege to have been able to sponsor this amazing Championship.

‘Looking ahead to the next season, everyone at Blackwood Plant is just as excited to be involved – if anything, 2016 promises to attract even more talented rallying stars and greater numbers of dedicated fans.

‘We’re delighted to be able to support such an amazing sport that is loved by so many.”
