Jolomo paintings 1& 2 at Scottish Parliament

McGrigor sees donation of four commissioned Jolomo paintings to Scottish Parliament Art Collection

In yet another apolitical project for the national good seen through to completion, Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands MSP, today, 22nd September, joined the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Tricia Marwick and Argyll-based Scottish artist, John Lowrie Morrison, [Jolomo] at the official unveiling in the Scottish Parliament of four paintings gifted to the Scottish Parliament Art Collection by the artist.

Over a number of years Jamie McGrigor has helped to facilitate the discussions between Jolomo and the Scottish Parliament Art Collection which led to this donation of the four specially commissioned paintings.

Speaking today, after the event, the MSP said: ‘Jolomo is one of Scotland’s most popular and renowned contemporary artists and I am absolutely delighted that, thanks to his generosity, four of his wonderful works will now be on display in our Parliament where they will add colour and will, I am sure, give pleasure to building users and visitors alike.

‘I am particularly pleased that three of the four paintings feature vibrant scenes from my native Argyll & Bute, namely Macrihanish, Tobermory and Iona.

‘The unveiling of these paintings is in part due to well-known Oban resident and former Oban Times reporter and columnist, Coll MacDougall, who originally suggested I write to the then Presiding Officer, George Reid, with Jolomo’s request to donate art to the Parliament.

‘I would want to use this occasion to again commend the fantastic work Jolomo does in promoting Scottish art and supporting new and up-and-coming Scottish artists, not least through his schools and landscape painting competitions.

‘I wish Jolomo continued success in his career and in his charitable efforts and again am so pleased that the Scottish Parliament now has on display four such fine examples of the best of Scottish contemporary landscape art.’
