Comment posted Here’s how the ‘BT Broadband Security’ scam works – a victim’s narrative by Dugald Barr.
Lynda, I’d like to add myself to those thanking you for this honest and informative account, which could save many others getting into trouble. The scammers are clearly very plausible and it is very easy to take one wrong step and ‘reveal all’. Personally I have nothing to do with internet banking, even if that makes me a fogey!

- Historic Environment Scotland abandons Crinan Canal to invasive urbanisation and sees ‘no material change’
A towpath beside a scenic canal is rather different from an A road and it was A83 the last time I looked!
- Finnair now offers Scotland access to Asia from Edinburgh via Helsinki
Why do your posters have to make of a perfectly rational airline route some sort of nationalist/socialist/ anti-UK whinge? Helsinki has been a logical staging post for the Far East for ages, and indeed makes far more sense for Scots than London or indeed Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt, due to the latitude: a great circle to Tokyo or Beijing goes straight over Helsinki. The only disadvantage is a stopover but I can’t see traffic justifying non-stop from Scottish airports any time soon, so the question is just ‘where is the stopover?’. And yes, Finland is an excellent country and well worth visiting, for all sorts of reasons.
It’s the airlines, not the inhabitants of London that want super-hubs. Greater dispersion of destinations is happening, though.
- Kintyre Express ready new first-in-line 13 metre for fast ferry duty
‘Seems much bigger again than her comparative length advantage would have seemed possible’ – increase the length of a vessel and with similar proportions all dimensions will be increased. Moreover the effect is of the extra 3 metres or so being added amidships, therefore a very sizeable extra hunk of accommodation – at least another metre of beam and one of height, I would guess.
I very much look forward to having a spin!
- A national anthem for England: why not change the British national anthem to Land of Hope and Glory?
I wonder whether phrases such as ‘England’s mountains green’ ‘England’s pleasant pastures’ and ‘England’s green and pleasant pastures’ provide a tiny clue?
- Holyrood debate on support for haulage industry to tackle coming shortage of HGV drivers
How could anyone ‘dislike’ or disagree? Perhaps the egregious charity lady who suggested that lorry drivers besieged by migrants in France and running the gauntlet of attacks involving stones, knives, hammers, iron bars, baseball bats and guns as they wait to enter the Channel Tunnel should stop moaning and that it was ‘not the end of the world ‘ if drivers were forced to quit through intimidation and fear because they still had a ‘safe future’. It is a wonder that we have any truckers left at all.
