Comment posted With Heb Isles in for repairs, CalMac charters replacement vessel to reduce underprovision for Islay by Peter Wade.

So problems with the Finlaggan, the Heb Isles, the Red Princess harbour bound and the Arran. I hear that the Ali Cat has now also failed and will be off for a couple of days.

I thought that CalMac were winning awards for being the best ferry company in Britain. All I can say is heaven help Britain.

  • David MacBrayne Limited now Living Wage accredited
Its good to know that Edinburgh is providing the funding to enable CalMac to provide these wages.

Surely now all state employees in health, education, council workers etc can now look forward to the same treatment and better wages. Or is it just the ferries because the unions have the power to bring the SNP to their knees?

  • Man who took this photo was told he was 8th standby on a full boat
“friend of his who is turning into a professional complainer about CalMac”

Hardly a surprise when there is so much to complain about.

Vessels breaking down, cancelled sailings, the inability to get on to a vessel when there is clearly space.

  • Man who took this photo was told he was 8th standby on a full boat
How many potential visitors have decided not to come to Islay or other islands when told that the ferry is full, and then it sails with space.

This is a scandal, the frustrated travellers represent a loss of income to island businesses and local residents denied access to the mainland. Not forgetting that the taxpayer has to pay for this lost income through higher subsidises.

    Shame on CalMac.

  • Scottish Government’s complete capitulation to RMT on west coast ferries tender
You are wrong in all of your assumptions with respect to my circumstances. Furthermore you are incorrect with regards to the first strike in 30 years.

Rather than have a go at me personally, why don’t you focus on the argument.

The RMT beat the politicians and hence they are now de facto owners and managers of the ferry service and now the tender process.

  • Scottish Government’s complete capitulation to RMT on west coast ferries tender
The only people walking around with fixed and wide smiles will be the RMT, they have managed to the politicians to dance to there tune.

This will just be the starting salvo, as going forward they will be able to go to the operator and say if we don’t get this, we will go on strike and Edinburgh, will simply write another fact cheque to them.

At the first test of the SNP v RMT bonfire of the vanities, we can clearly see who wears the trousers.

The victims going forward will be the islanders as there is no hope for improved services and of course all the additional subsidy needed to keep the CalMac employees in the lavish lifestyle that they are accustomed to.

I would suggest that all public sector workers switch to the RMT, they certainly know how to make the politicians look pathetically weak willed.
