Tomorrow, 4th September 2013, a selection of rare Islay malt whiskies come up for auction at McTears in Glasgow.
There are four bottles frmm three of Islay’s legendary distilleries – Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen.
The Ardbeg candidates are the twins – two bottles of a limited release of ‘Double Barrell’ 33 year old Ardbeg, bottled at cask strength and presented under sterling silver labels in hand blown glass bottles, making them even more unique.
Sticking with the alphabetical order, there’s a 40 year old Bowmore, one of only 306 in the world and bottled in 1955.
And there’s a 12 year old Port Ellen bottled in honour of the Queen’s visit to Port Ellen and ts distillery in 1980.
With premium rare single malts one of the most sought after investments since the collapse of the financial institutions in the Autumn of 2008, the estimates attached to these bottles are as breath-taking as the drams themselves.
- The Ardbeg pair may go for somewhere between £10k and £12k.
- The Bowmore for £3k to £4k
- and the Port Ellen for £4.5k – £5.5k.
