10 days to BOWfest – Best of the West Festival at Inveraray castle

BOWfest brings the very best of the Scottish west coast in music, food, drink, physical challenge and fun to Inveraray Castle on 14th and 15th September 2013.

Following last year’s storming success has been a major driver in putting this year’s programme together but it looks like they’ve done it.

These are two musical feast days with unique programmes in the Music Marquee and Bar – led by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Skerryvore, Skipinnish, Dr Hip and the Blues Operation, Acoustic Butterfly, The Condition, The Camans, Pauline Alexander…  full details below and it’s growing as we write.

Photo: BOWFest are delighted that Loch Fyne Oysters will be feeding our masses all weekend. They pride themselves on their provenance, quality and sustainability. From humble beginnings in the late 1970's, they have grown to become one of the most prominent suppliers of west coast seafood in Scotland. Their customers range around the globe, from five star hotels in Hong Kong, to small independent hotels and restaurants throughout the UK.

Feasting direct this year involves all sorts of Food from Argyll – from the Real MacKay’s home-bred roasted lamb stovies, to Winston Churchill venison burgers to Loch Fyne Oysters seafood spectacular and Bumble’s Puddings.

It's been distilled here since at least the 15th century, with the first written record of it dating back to 1494-95 when Friar John Cor of Lindores Abbey in Fife was granted the king's commission to make acqua vitae latin for 'water of life' and the word 'whisky' derives from the Gaelic translation.</p><p>Inveraray's very own Loch Fyne Whisky Shop will be hosting 40 West Coast Distilleries in the Whisky Tent. The food and the music are all washed down with Loch Fyne Whiskies – hosting 40 west coast distilleries on the schedule for intimate exploration; with Loch Fyne Ales and The George Hotel, respectively Pub of the Year and Family-run Pub of the Year 2013 on hand to mouth duty.

There are all sorts of delights for children of all ages , including storytelling in the woods and the rambling presence of Bruce the Knapdale Beaver. – who may not be as shy as you’d expect.

Local marketing groups from all over Argyll and the Isles will be there, underlining the multiple magics in the ginormous Tardis of this place. There will be representative from golf courses, the like of which you’ve never seen – like Machrihanish Dunes; alongside those with the capacity to get you around Argyll by land and water, like West Coast Motors, CalMac, Kintyre Express… And there will be therapies and crafts.

In short, everything you can possibly need for two days of indulgence, exercise and good craic will be on site.
