Oban Lifeboat out to yacht aground on Kerrera

Oban lifeboat shout

At 16.10 on a Friday 12th July, Oban Lifeboat was tasked to assist a 31ft motor sailer, Garuda, with 4 persons and 2 dogs aboard

Garuda had grounded on the south end of the Sound of Kerrera.

The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 16.30 where the daughter boat was launched to assess the situation.

As there was no danger to the crew the lifeboat remained with the yacht until the tide was sufficiently high to allow it float off.

At 18.00 the vessel freed herself from the reef with assistance of the XP boat to recover her stern anchor.

The Lifeboat stood by while the yacht checked for water ingress and did a figure of eight to assess her steering.

With all well the Lifeboat, Mora Edith Macdonald, returned to station where she was made ready for service by 18.30.
