Dr Colin Wilson, a long-standing member of Oban Lifeboat crew and the station’s Medical Adviser, has been awarded the Institution’s Bronze Medal specifically for his services to the Station Management Group.

He is also the RNLI’s Divisional Medical Adviser for Scotland.

The Management Group is a very active one and Colin has played a big part in its decisions.    Particularly recently, along with others, he has helped to design and word the packaging of the 18 year-old single cask Oban Malt Whisky a hogshead of which was gifted by the distillery to Oban Lifeboat Station in 1994.

On its maturation it was bottled and has been sold  for lifeboat funds at a price approaching £200 per bottle.

The photograph is of Dr Wilson showing his medal, awards made rarely in a service funded wholly by public donations and distinguished daily by those who serve in it, largely volunteer crews.
