Skillmun event brings traditional skills to Kilmun in July

There’s an unusual upcoming event, Skillmun – about skills, at Kilmun - on 20th July, a festival of traditional skills, arts and crafts.

Clanscape, from the National Parks, will be displaying the life skills seen in an 18th Century highland settlement.

Fiona MacDougal will be providing a workshop in rope-making, using the irritating ‘soft reed’ that grows so abundantly here.

Then there will be the flamboyant Scottish Green Woodworkers displaying their wood-turning talents.

Add fighting knights, felters, rush-workers, fresh local produce from The Veggie Patch, a burger stall, stocks, music from Dunoon Community Radio and a games stall – not to mention many local artists from Cowal Open Studios displaying their talents – and this promises to be a day of dizzying variety.

Skillmun will be taking place from noon onwards on 20th July, at Graham’s Point in Kilmun on the east side of the Holy Loch in Cowal.
