Mary’s Meals a life changer for 13 year-old Malawian orphan

13 year old John, now a pupil at Jacaranda School for orphans in Malawi, says: 'As an orphan, I have nothing. This porridge is so important to me; it gives me power to see, read and write. It gave me the power to write my story for Her Majesty.'

At the school, John is given every day, a nutritious meal from the international child food aid charity, Mary's Meals, based in Dalmally.

Five years ago he was alone, hungry and sick, forced to beg on the streets to survive.

Since he got a place at Jacaranda School for Orphans, John’s life has changed for the better and so have his prospects.

His education enabled him to write a heartfelt account of his journey from orphaned beggar to happy student  - and the story earned him a meeting with the Queen.

Now aged 13, he has his heart set on becoming a pilot after travelling on three planes to reach London, where he met Her Majesty - a clear case of onwards and upwards.

Donations to this enormously worthwhile charity, born here in Argyll, saving and bettering children's lives across the world, can be made online at any time, via the link immediately above.
