The Inveraray & District Grade 1 pipe band may have had no competitions for the past couple of weeks – but the same could not be said of its Juvenile band.
The Juveniles were off to Shotts on Saturday 1st June for the West of Scotland Championships – where they won the Juvenile grade. Their drum corps also took first.
Last Saturday, 8th June, they travelled to the minor competition at Bearsden [seen above before performing there] – and again took first in the Juvenile grade. Then they ‘played up’ to Grade 2 and came second in that event – an astonishing success.
The band turned in solid musical performances on both of these occasions – good preparation for the European Championships which will take place in Forres in Moray at the end of this month, on Saturday 29th June.
On Friday 28th June, both the Grade 1 and the Juvenile bands will make the long journey north and stay overnight prior to the event – which is being held in Forres for the first time.
With no major contest in Ireland this year – the British Championships having now gone to Bathgate, this is the farthest the bands will have to travel for the 2013 major competitions.
Once again The George Hotel in Inveraray has provided very generous sponsorship towards the travel and accommodation costs of the bands.
The photograph above shows Kris Clark of The George Hotel presenting a cheque for £2,000 to IDPB members, Megan Howarth, Dee Mather, Cameron Bell and Duncan Clark.
Band Secretary, Jim McMillan says: ‘IDPB are very fortunate to have the support of many local businesses and none more so than The George Hotel who have helped us financially over the years. We must therefore thank Donald, Kris and Donald of The George for their continued generosity to the band.’
