  1. What exactly is a driver expected to do in these circumstances? Go like the clappers, go slowly, or not go that way at all?

    • Ridiculous, isn’t it?
We did a straw poll a while ago and, predictably there were two approaches – almost evenly split.
Abut half – which I admit includes myself – go for the heavy right foot; and half go canny with a sharp eye on the hillside for longer than they probably should.
HGV drivers are the most nervous as their high-sided vehicles have the capacity to be pushed over the crash barrier and on down the hill. But they have schedules to meet so voluntarily taking the long way round, adding an hour and a quarter or so, isn’t really an option.
People out for a drive, if they get the warning before they leave, probably just go somewhere else.

  2. I suppose practically all you can do is watch out for debris on the road, there is probably a higher risk of hitting debris in the road than being hit by debris.
