Karen Birch of Breakthrough 100 to walk and talk Scotland for breast cancer charity

Almost 50,000 women and around 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

The charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, is working to enable a future free from breast cancer.

100 leading Scottish business women are supporting the charity by pledging to raise£100,000 -  £1,000 each.

Karen Birch, of the3rdi Magazine, is one of them.

Karen started walking on 1st May. She will get to Fort William tomorrow, 8th May and will complete 350 miles around Scotland in one month, with her journey taking her on to Inverness, Aberdeen and finishing up in Edinburgh on 31st May.

Along her way and from her experience, Karen will be speaking to women about her entrepreneurial journey. Over the years she has grown a number of successful businesses and she is keen to share these experiences.

She is inviting anyone who wants to learn from her business life to join her along the way, for anything from a few hours to a few days, with Karen listening, coaching, mentoring and advising as they walk through the beautiful Scottish countryside.

Karen has a blog and all her dates, times and contact emails can be found here. Women interested in keeping her company and in taking advantage of access to  her expertise, should email anne@the3rdi.co.uk and let her know when/where they’d like to join Karen.

Karen says: ‘The Breakthrough 100 is not only a fantastic networking tool for business women across Scotland, it is also a way in which we can join the fight against breast cancer, and raise crucial awareness for the disease. Over 4,500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Scotland, and the education and research carried out by Breakthrough is crucial in changing that statistic.’

James Jopling, Director for Scotland of Breakthrough Breast Cancer says: ‘The Breakthrough 100 is the first Breakthrough group of its kind in Scotland and is full of ambitious and driven independent women.

‘Their business networks can only aid their fundraising targets and we hope they can also inspire each other.

‘Karen’s challenge is exactly what the Breakthrough 100 is all about – combining business with fundraising and joining the fight against breast cancer. We wish her the best of luck in her challenge.’
