The ever inventive primary school in Minard, on Loch Fyneside in Mid Argyll, is sending a clear visual message just now.
This small and enchanting village school, with the third best HMI report in Scotland, was shamefully targeted for closure last time around.
Its cheerful and determined local parent and community campaign group brooked no resistance and were a perpetual delight at every single Argyll-wide demonstration outside Argyll and Bute Council’s HQ at Kilmory in Lochgilphead.
The brightly pointed and appropriate visual statement above and below, cheering the roadside, says loudly to any potential predator: ‘We’re here and we’re staying here. We can defend ourselves .’

My son went to this school in the 90′s. He had two wonderful head teachers in those years and enjoyed his time there immensely. It was a great school in a wonderful little community. Threatening schools like this threatens Argyll as a whole. It is these schools in small, close knit communities that give Argyll its unique vibrancy and zest. They do more than just teach children, they’re the hub of the village.

Exactly the point we all made during the recent threat to shut it down, along with about two dozen similar schools. I still have all the banners, placards, etc, ready for the next round.
