Free 2 day introduction to developing international tourism markets for Argyll and the Isles

Argyll and the Islands Tourism Coopearative, in a partnership with Highlands & Islands Enterprise and  Scottish Development International is issuing invitations to an introductory workshop designed specifically for tourism businesses in the Argyll and the Islands area.

This free two day workshop is aimed at businesses which are at the very early stages of taking a proactive approach to developing or growing their international tourism markets.

  • When: Monday 22nd and Monday 29th April 2013 (you are expected to attend both days)
  • Where: Portavadie Marina, Loch Fyne
  • Times: 9am for 9.30am start, finishing at 4.30pm (tbc)

Workshop Content

Module 1: Market Analysis – planning for international tourism markets; understanding our international visitors, who they are and where they’re coming from; carrying out effective market research; which markets to focus on and how.

Module 2: Routes to Market – choosing your route to market; the role of collaboration; exhibitions and trade fairs; working effectively with the travel trade and tour operators; international marketing and social media; taking into account different cultures & languages.

Module 3: International Inbound Marketing – understanding the importance of inbound marketing; using the internet and social media effectively to communicate with your international visitors.

Module 4: Overview of Support available – including Tourism Intelligence Scotland, Scottish Development International and UKTI, VisitScotland and VisitBritain targeted towards your own individual business needs; one to one support in developing your own international tourism action plan.

Notes for attendees

Although the course is free of charge, but as it is a form of State Aid, it could count towards an overall De Minimis allowance.

This free programme, funded through Smart Exporter, is targeted at businesses which are new to international markets.

Please note 3rd party intermediaries and consultants are not eligible to attend.

Smart Exporter is a new international trade skills programme from the European Social Fund, designed to increase skills and knowledge amongst Scottish businesses. This initiative is delivered by Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE), Scottish Development International (SDI), Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
