Our visitor numbers are ever-increasing. We’re now regularly topping 6,000 individual visitors per day. And because we’re topping that figure the website has had trouble coping — we’re a victim of our own success, particularly during the week when traffic is very heavy.
Now, given that the platform we’re using (WordPress) is optimised, and the design of the pages is pretty light, and that we use caching technology to enable pages to be served more quickly, we had only one option. Upgrade the server.
We have started by doubling the RAM. We reckon this will take our capacity up to around regular 9,000 visitors a day (we already spike significantly over that but the account we have gives us extra resources in short bursts to cope with such traffic). Once we get to that level, we’ll double the RAM again.
Obviously, rumours of irrelevance and a falling readership are vastly over-exaggerated in certain quarters – we can’t think why.

As Corporal Jones used to say: “They don’t like it up ‘em!”
