Ardchattan Parish Archive is well on the road with the project funded under the ‘All Our Stories’ programme.
This is focused on collecting, sharing and organising information on a locality - to do two things:
- redeeming information that would otherwise be lost, putting together a richer and more detailed picture of a community over time;
- strengthen a community through engagement in doing this, bringing people together in exploration and sharing and bonding the community as a whole with an understanding of its past.
The first public gathering from the Ardchattan project
The first talk for our All Our Stories project is on Saturday 9th March, from 2.00pm onwards, at the Victory Hall in Benderloch.
It is focused on learning about the Gaelic Place Names of Ardchattan.
This is an informal participation session to start exploring the local Gaelic placenames with the help of the eminent Gaelic scholar and local historian, John MacFarlane.
Everyone interested is invited to come for the whole session or to drop in when they can.
The aim is to gather as much information as possible on the origins and variations of names in the area, and how they connect with the land, people and land use over time.
This will be a fascinating event, sharing information and creating richer insights into the evolution of Ardchattan.
It;s a free event but donations will be welcomed – and there will be refreshments to keep fuelling the memories.
