A83: more trials on emergency diversion route

omr 3

Transport Scotland has held more traffic trials on the Old Military Road through Glen Croe over the past week.

These trials included a fully laden 44t HGV, a West Coast Motors supercoach and a Lochs and Glens coach.

The photographs were taken by Transport Scotland staff and show that these more demanding vehicles were able successfully to cope with the tight spots on the last section of this single track emergency road up to the car park at Rest and Be Thankful.

The photographs indicate that these vehicles tested the route in both directions.

  1. Looks like a fun drive. I live in US and have read of the slides causing the road to be blocked often. How is this emergency road less vulnerable to the slide issue?
