As buffs know, when whisky is maturing in casks at or above 60% humidity for long periods, some of it evaporates – around 2% per annum – and this is known as ‘the angel’s share’.
The Loch Lomond Arm Hotel in Luss on Loch Lomond is offering an angel’s share of its own in a getaway break for the whisky connoisseur, which will include a visit to a local distillery.
The hotel, reopened in the summer of 2012 after virtual rebuilding and upgrading, is at the edge of the picture postcard village of Luss, surrounded by the beauty of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park outside – and offering comfort, blazing fires and good food inside.
The Angel’s Share initiative is a special two night bed and breakfast break (based on two people sharing), which includes a visit to the Glengoyne Distillery to enjoy the Master Blender Tour – all for £180 per couple, or £230 per couple for the choice of having dinner on one of the two evenings of the break.
The Glengoyne Distillery is not far from the hotel and close to the beginning of the West Highland Way. It is known as Scotland’s most beautiful distillery, with a reputation for offering a first class visitor experience. Owned by independent family company, Ian Macleod Distillers, Glengoyne has been producing award winning Highland Single Malt for over 175 years – and it rewards acquaintance.
The Loch Lomond Arms also has its own well stocked gantry of whiskies and local ales so nothing about this break is going to miss the target of exploring the usquebaugh.
For those with romance of a different kind in mind, there is limited availability for at the hotel for its Valentine’s break.
This is for any two nights for two sharing, between 14th and 17th February, with a romantic dinner and complimentary bottle of Prosecco on one night and breakfast on both mornings – for £180 per couple.
There are walks on the shores of Loch Lomond and in the woods, all close to the hotel.
Luss, with the hotel, is in Argyll and is an introduction to it – only 30 minutes drive from Glasgow and closer still to Glasgow International Airport – so to book a whisky break or Valentine’s getaway, contact Loch Lomond Arms Hotel on 01436 860 420 or visit their website here = and get a taste for Argyll.
