The roaring success that is Kintyre’s MOKRUN [Mull of Kintyre run] opened for 2013 entries in the new year and got snowballed with 500 requests for places in the first four days.
The run is, in fact, two runs. There’s the classic half marathon and there’s the 10k Run.
The organisers of the 2013 events are now, understandably, urging everyone who wants to run to ask for a place without delay.
There are fewer than 300 spaces left in the field of 800 for 2013.
The 8th MOKRUN races will be held on the holiday bank weekend on Sunday 26th May 2013 – and the organisers have just found out that the Half Marathon was voted the best in the UK by readers of Runners World – for the second year running – ‘or maybe the 3rd’. [No jokes about Campbeltown folk being unable to count.]
The BIG message is that if you want to run this year, please enter here and now.
The Half Marathon starts on Main Street; runs round the town; out past the Sound of Kintyre community near Campbeltown airport; across the now legendary Machrihanish Dunes golf course onto the gorgeous Westport Beach – where the sand will really sock it to those aching calf muscles; visits a few hills; and makes a welcome return to the town where all sorts of delights will ease the pain in no time.
Mercifully – for a family event, the 10k sticks mainly to the flat. It tours the great crescent of Campbeltown Loch, offering 270 degrees of different perspectives on this spectacular part of the world.
And the after-party plays a big part in the annual attraction of the event.
