Autosport is the UK’s best-selling weekly motorsport magazine.
Lauded by fans and industry insiders alike – this week’s issue of the magazine added its credibility to the Mull Rally’s claim that the two day spectacular is the ‘best rally in the world’ by making it a ‘Must see event in 2013′.
The Tour of Mull Rally, now simply The Mull Rally, has long been a favourite since founder, Brian Molyneaux, his family and the 2300 Car club of Blackburn joined the locals of the island and first ran the event back in the 60s.
In recent years the public roads have been closed during the event – but back then you could be sharing the single track with other vehicles.
The Mull Rally lines up in this week’s feature flanked by the Singapore Grand Prix and the Surfers Paradise V8 Supercars. Now that;s talkin’.
The Canadian Grand Prix, The Nurbergring 24 Hours and the Daytona 24 hours are also on the list, underlining the weight of esteem the Mull Rally commands, justifying the title of the late Brian Molyneux’s book, The Best rally in the World.
‘There’s no more beautiful place than the world than the Scottish Highlands in Autumn’, says Autosport in its four page feature – and continues: ‘… and a Ford Escort MK11 on the ragged edge around Calgary Bay completes that picture. Book this one now.
‘If you have never stood in a graveyard at two in the morning with rain driving at you and rally cars driving round you, you’ve never lived.’
I agree it takes a lot to beat the Dervaig hairpins as viewed from behind the Graveyard wall before a visit to the village hall for Soup and bacon rolls.
I should know. I was that man.
The Mull Rally can be found online any time – at and it can be experienced live this year, on Friday 11th – Sunday 13th October 2013.
And now it’s official, It’s a ‘Must See’.
