Colonsay hits the headlines with a pub for Christmas

Yesterday’s national papers were carrying the story of the islanders of Colonsay – the outermost of the chain of islands with Islay and Jura.

Faced with the unavailability for the festive seasons of the only pub on the island – the bar in the Colonsay Hotel which now closes over the winter season, volunteers stepped up to man the pumps.

The landlord gave them a peppercorn rent for the period and spirits amongst the hundred or so residents and visitors are now as high as they always are at this time of the year.

Respect.
