Scottish Water – and of course his family and friends – are dealing with the shock death of Richard Ackroyd, the young, 53 year old, CEO of the national utility.
Mr Ackroyd, whose leadership of the company has been markedly successful, had been CEO for around five years and had come from Yorkshire Water,
His responsibilities at the company are being undertaken for the time being by the Chair of Scottish Water, Ronnie Mercer and senior management colleagues of Mr Ackroyd’s.
Everyone’s sympathies are with Mr Ackroyd’s widow and bis two young sons – and with his colleagues at Scottish Water.
A spokesman for Scottish Water says:
‘It is with great sadness that Scottish Water announces the sudden death of its Chief Executive Richard Ackroyd.
‘Richard has been chief executive of Scottish Water for almost five years.
‘The Executive Leadership Team and our chair Ronnie Mercer will take over his role with immediate effect. Our workforce has been informed.
‘No further details can be given at this time.
‘Richard leaves a wife and two young sons. We would ask for privacy for the family while we all come to terms with this loss.
‘The thoughts of everyone at Scottish Water are with his family and friends.
‘Richard came to Scottish Water from Yorkshire Water and has guided the business through its most successful period of growth and development. This culminated with its 10 year anniversary, its highest level of success and its nomination for Utility of the Year in the prestigious Utility Awards in December.’
