Perfectly timed to warm the cockles with winter on the way, Machrihanish Dunes are hosting a Springbank Whisky Weekend on 27th and 28th October.
There are unique tastings drawn straight fro the cask at the legendary Springbank’s No 3 Dunnage warehouse; and there are familarisation visits to this distillery and to the Glen Scotia and Glengyle distilleries in a town that made so much of its original wealth on the back of a great dram.
There are guided walks around Campbeltown, a grand merchant town, with a walk-past of the whisky barons villas on the shores of Campbeltown Loch.
The splendidly refurbished Royal Hotel on the town’s waterfront then hosts a whisky dinner at its Harbourview Grille, with guest speaker Frank McHardy, Springbank’s Director of Production.
The package for the event includes an optional night at the luxury Royal Hotel itself, with its views over the loch to the guardian island of Davaar at its entrance – but there are reduced rates available for anyone taking the opportunity to spend two nights in the Royal and explore the town and the fabled Mull of Kintyre.
Another enticement to do just that is the offer of playing the unique Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course on 28th October for £35 per person.
Weather at the end of October can be lovely – bright and crisp. Even if it isn’t, the content of this weekend promises no shortage of internal heat and the glow of walking the Dunes course for those who make two nights of it.
The tour, the tastings and the whisky dinner with Frank McHardy at the Royal Hotel costs £99. Rooms cost £199 per person per night for single occupancy; and £180 per person per night for double occupancy.
