Seen today from Western Ferries

A reader caught these guys on a phone camera today as they headed for Faslane. The shot was taken from onboard Western Ferries from McInroy’s Point to Hunter’s Quay.

Evidently the subs displace ‘one heck of a lot of water’ and when the swell hit the ferry, all those onboard knew all about it.

Given the recent political focus on nuclear arms [we think these are Trident-carrying Vanguards] and on NATO membership – and even the ‘new boats for Dunoon’ campaign -  this shot is begging for captions in the comments box.

Have a look at it again to get the creative ideas waking.

Built specifically to carry the Trident missiles, the Vanguards are one of the largest submarines to be built. The biggest submarine ever built is the gigantic Russian Typhoon class, with Russia’s Borei class in second place, the USA’s Ohio class third and the Vanguard class in fourth.

  1. The US sub is probably a Los Angeles class SSN, the american equivalent of the Royal Navy’s Trafalgar class. As the first post says, the other is a Vanguard class SSBN.

  3. The SNP finally showing intelligent green credentials and integrity.
Two new recycled weather-proof ferries and an initiative to provide clean energy for 300,000+ homes overnight.

Of course, neither vessel carries vehicles, so Western would remain safe.

    • Recyle a few more of the trident class, weld them together to form a hollow tube and we’ve got Mr Russell’s tunnel, job done – watch out Western Ferries, your tea could be oot!
