The largest section of the new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, built at BAE Systems in Govan on the Clyde, is being loaded today- 15th October 2012 – onto the world’s second largest barge, the AMT Trader, who arrived in the Clyde at the end of September.
This movement does not mean that she is about to leave the Clyde, though.
This is scheduled for 3rd November and is tidally sensitive.

Lower Block 04 has been loaded onto the barge and due to the progress in the sea-fastening scope, the barge is now expected to leave Govan five days early on Monday 29 October. The Block will then set sail on a 600 mile journey round the north of Scotland to Rosyth.

Presumably it will go north of the Orkneys?

The barge is surely not comparable to the Yeoman Bontrup, and the only problem would be if the tide through the Pentland Firth was against it.

You will be able to track the barge’s progress using AIS by searching for the tug that will be in attendence. I will post the name of the tug as soon as I know.
