Argyll Ferries winter refit

The two Argyll Ferries boats on the Gourock-Dunoon route are shortly to go in for their annual winter refits.

Argyll Ferries customers are therefore advised that the service will be reduced to a single-vessel hourly service over a two week period from Monday 5th November to Saturday 17th November, (inclusive) while the boats are in refit.

Copies of the revised timetable are published on posters at each port and here on the Argyll Ferries website.

All ferry travellers are advised in advance that, because of the reduced timetable, the very late sailings on the two Friday and Saturday nights in this period – 9th and 10th November and 16th and 17th November – will not operate.

An Argyll Ferries spokesman says: ‘The annual refits, which are covered under the operating contract, are an essential part of the ships’ preparation for winter and vital to maintain technical reliability. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’

  1. This article seems incorrect and a bit misleading. It gives the impression that both boats are serviced, surely it is only the Ali Cat (which probably would not be able to sail much in November anyway). We can then look forward to another two weeks of half-service later when the Argyll Flyer gets serviced – at least that was what was in the original contract.

    • We read the press release as meaning that the boats were following each other in for refit during the two week period of reduced service.

This was our interpretation, though, so will enquire to establish the facts of the situation and post the information in this chain when we get it.

  2. I totally fail to comprehend the logic and reasoning for stopping the last ferry because one boat is away for her winter service.
    Is it me?
Am I having a “Senior Moment”?

  3. Re comment No 1 from ferryman: We can confirm that our interpretation was correct.
Both boats are going into refit during this period.
The Flyer does not have to go in now but Argyll Ferries is doing its best to limit the impact of the necessary refit time on the service and doing its best to underpin service reliability in the winter period.
Putting both boats into refit at this stage sends the service into the winter fully prepared.
