[Update 31st October 15.00 - warnings lifted] 30th October. The A83 is yet again under warnings of increased risk of landslide at Rest and Be Thankful,
There is no sign of any more movement on the emergency diversion route should the A83 close with severe threat of landslips or under the weight of the real McCoy.
There is no news of the reaching of agreement with the landowner for this diversion route to be progressed – or of the taking out of a compulsory purchase order to get this serious public interest matter resolved.
We are now on the brink of November, moving pronouncedly into winter and Argyll is still a hostage to this neglect of responsibility.
Is there anyone actually on the job at Transport Scotland?
Is the Task Force – supposed to be supervising the scheduled progress of the emergency diversion route, asking any questions, applying any pressure?
And if they are, is anybody listening?

What are you worried about, are you not content to wait for our MSP Mike Russell to deliver his tunnel fantasy?
Nobody seems to be at home to deal with the Dunoon ferries problem either.
It does not seem to have ocurred to the Government that neither of these issues is going to go away, both are at whim of the weather.

Councillor Dougie Philand of the Argyll First group, whose petition – Sign for the A83 – is currently making its way through the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee, has tonight sent this email to Phil Hinchliff of Transport Scotland:
‘Phil, once again the warning lights are on for a possible landslide on the rest and be thankful and we are about to enter November with no further way forward in terms of the emergency route or land purchase the minute of the meeting on the 15th October stated
‘Transport Scotland advised that discussions with the landowner were being pursued as a matter of priority and substantial agreement has been reached. Final legal drafting of the Minute of Agreement is now nearing completion. Keith Brown MSP advised that he had met with the landowner’s representative, prior to the Taskforce Meeting, and had received a letter of comfort that all matters had been agreed in principle. Minute of Agreement is to be completed as soon as possible.
‘Has this now been signed off and if so when is the completion date for the works for the emergency route, and if the land agreement has not been signed off can I ask when this is due to happen?’
