Business development via Business Gateway: Bidding for public sector contracts and more

Just as the news is published than an Argyll business [Samteq, Dunoon] has won the public sector contract to build the new website for Argyll and the Isles Tourism – against a large and talented field with several competitors from outside Scotland -  Argyll and Bute’s local Business Gateway is offering help to Argyll businesses to compete for such contracts.

Below are the details on this and on other support services and sessions Business Gateway is  running in the near future.

Tendering for public sector contracts

Business Gateway’s new Public Sector procurement workshop will guide you through the process, from registering and setting up relevant alerts on Public Contracts Scotland, completing Quick Quotes and Pre Qualification Questionnaires , share practical tips and case studies and provide experts to answer your questions. This workshop is facilitated by Enterprise Europe Network and all participants will receive a free comprehensive guide on tendering for public sector contracts.

These workshops will be taking place in:

  • Oban – 3 October 2012
  • Campbeltown – 4 October 2012
  • Dunoon – 31 October 2012
  • Inveraray – 1 November 2012

Eight in ten Scottish public sector contracts go to small firms

Small and medium-sized enterprises supply 78% of public sector contracts in Scotland, according to a consultation document on a procurement reform Bill published by the Scottish Government. The document compared the figure in Scotland with that of local Government in England, where just 49% of suppliers are small firms. The consultation document said it hoped the Bill will further increase opportunities for new businesses, small and medium-sized firms and third sector organisations to bid for public contracts. The consultation document on the procurement reform bill is available here.

Business Gateway’s autumn workshops starts  in October

The autumn programme includes practical workshops on building and improving a business website, trading online, an introduction to social media, basic book-keeping, Self Assessment for the self employed and business start-up. Details are available on the document linked here: Oct-Dec 12 workshop poster.  If you wish to book a place either call the team on 01546 605459 or email business.gateway@argyll-bute.gov.uk
