In a hard fought game of see-saw fortunes at Oban’s Mossfield Park this afternoon (15th September), one Argyll side, Tignabruaich’s Kyles Athletic took shinty’s 2012 Camanachd Cup by the odd goal from Inveraray.
It started with Inveraray’s Russell McKinlay putting them 1-0 up six minutes in.
Kyles’ Roddy MacDonald levelled at 1-1, and then scored another taking his side3 2-1 up.
.Inveraray’s Gary MacPherson brought Inveraray back to 2-2; followed by Chris Crawford taking them one ahead to 3-2, with Russell McKinlay scoring his second to put Inveraray ahead by 4-2 at the break.
Kyles’ Robbie MacLeod got a penalty to cut the Inveraray lead to one, at 4-3.
Gary MacPherson scored his own second to Take Inveraray to 5-3.
From then on it was all Kyles.
First Fraser MacDonald brought the score back to 4-5.
Then Roddy MacDonald levelled it at 5.5 – and went on to score the winner inside 15 minutes from the end.
6-5 to Kyles in a killer of a thriller game, with Argyll the winner and the runner-up in the first all-southern Camanachd Cup final for 29 years.
Kyles’ Roddy MacDonald was, unsurprisingly, the well deserved Man of the Match.
The photograph above was Inveraray en fete today, yellow and black balloons in the team colours everywhere – and they were worth every one of them, playing a blinder in a very tight goal-filled game.
