Wheels and sails: Hoy gets fifth gold and Argyll’s Luke Patience heads the Olympic 470 fleet

Chris Hoy’s magisterial sprint, borne on the launch from Kenny and Hindes, to take the gold for Team GB in the Men’s Sprint in the Olympic Velodrome was simply uplifting for everyone.

The velodrome itself – they called it ‘The Pringle’ when it was ready but do the London Games brand police allow that now? – looks like a superb venue with a great vibe. The cycling team seem to be on fire. More tomorrow.

At Weymouth, venue for the sailing events, the good news for Team GB and for Argyll is that Rhu’s Luke Patience – Jackie Baillie’s tip for success – is leading the 470 fleet.
