Motorists using the A83 between Machrihanish and Lochgilphead on Tuesday 14 August are warned to expect delay and to allow extra time for their journey.
A large, slow-moving vehicle – we assume that this is wind turbine tower sections from Wind Towers Limited – will be leaving RAF Machrihanish around 9am to travel north along the A83 to Lochgilphead. It will then travel to Salachary, north of Kilmartin, using the A816.
The vehicle will be escorted by Strathclyde Police and will be travelling for approximately five hours.
Other road users are likely to experience delays of up to 20 minutes, although overtaking opportunities will be made available. Allowing extra time for your journey on Tuesday 14 August is advisable.

There’s a pier in Campbeltown, there’s also a pier in Ardrishaig…. can’t these wind tower sections be transported by sea?

i’ll give you 2 good reasons. pier to shallow for the draft of the boat needed to transport the turbines. pier entrance not big enough, for the lorry, trailer, tower combination.it will do damage either to the brittish waterways building or wipe out the wee tin shed garage.

Thanks Obanite – not of a nautical nature – wasn’t aware of pier problem. I’m sure the garage would like a new building….!
