Oban lifeboat exercise morphs into search

While Oban lifeboat was on exercise yesterday evening (27th August) in the Firth of Lorne, Clyde Coastguard requested that she investigate a distress signal from a vessel in the area.

The position given via satellite took the lifeboat into Cuan Sound at the Isle of Seil, in the Slate Islands, some 10 miles South of Oban.

There she found the 33ft. fishing boat, Atlanta, safely at anchor with 3 persons aboard.

The vessel’s electronic equipment had developed a fault causing the false alarm.

The lifeboat was back in Oban, refuelled and ready for service again at 23.00.
