Councillor James Robb has sent us this photograph of Scotland Transerv’s contractors at work yesterday on the old military road below the A83, which is to be used as an emergency diversion route when the A83 suffers closures in landslides.
He reports that this was taken on his way to Council HQ at Kilmory from Helensburgh yesterday – and that this same stretch was completed when he was later on his way home.
This is clearly a determined effort and the contractors are working hard.
We understand that there is to be a situation update later from Councillor John Semple, Lead Councillor for Infrastructure.

Not before time.

Does this mean the annual hill climb car race can be reinstated ( as long as the top road is open)

Do we know if any change is planned for that very tight turn near the top? I’m not sure a modern coach or long artic could get round that corner.

The Transport Scotland / Scotland Transerv report on the emergency road route selection (there’s a link in the previous thread on this subject) has a photo of a hairpin bend at Berriedale Braes on the A9, and says that the bend at the Rest can achieve the same geometry with just slight improvement.

We know that there will be work done at the hairpin but do not yet know quite what it will be.

I can’t wait to see how fast I can get up that route!
