But wouldn’t the cash which will be used …

Comment posted A83: Friends of the Rest not even notified of emergency route plans by Iain McCallum.

But wouldn’t the cash which will be used to upgrade the Old Road to take traffic be better used to protect the main road from landslides? I imagine it will cost a fair old bob or two

But looking at that footage, whoever thinks that it will be a viable alternative to the landslide, blocked main road is well and truly on a parallel uuniverse

And good luck to all my chums and former colleagues and others who are mad enough to be doing this marvellous challenge for a fantastic cause

dougie, you might be right, but no-one drags folk from tearooms and cafes into McDonalds. And you can hardly blame them for litter louts dropping rubbish in the street. I live 4 miles from any McDonalds down here in West Wales and still there are wrappers lying on the floor. And in fairness their coffee is better value and taste than some of the coffee chains
  • Jock Dempster: hell and healing – two voyages to Murmansk
RIP Mr Dempster. And this government and the last, none of whom deserve to be mentioned in the same breath, should (but won’t) hang their heads in shame at the time it took to present the medals that you and your comrades so richly deserved for your heroic effort on the convoys. How sad that you didn’t get to wear it with pride in public.
  • Methadone Clinic issue also to be discussed at Campbeltown Community Council
I have commented on this Methadone subject on another forum and some folk criticised me. I am jaundiced I will admit having spent the last 20 odd years sweeping up the mess left by drug addicts. I am not against methadone clinics per say, but they must be used to wean addicts of the brown stuff. However, I had regular dealing with addicts who had been on Methadone for years, over 20 in one case. Surely the purpose is for it to be used in conjunction with a detox programme to get them off drugs? And they haven’t money for bed for sick ordinary citizens, but they have money for the minority who are addicted to heroin? Seems strange to me, but I am a dinosaur and have a cynical view of the whole drug thing

Brilliant. As I said on another thread, the folks in the Wee Toon keep dipping into their pockets and this marvellous Pictures keeps on going. Long may it continue

  1. Last Monday I was told by a senior road engineer in Transport Scotland that the intention was to make the old road fit for all traffic, with the use of a convoy system. I specifically asked if it would cope with the large trucks that use the A83, and was told that it would.
I was recently told by a retired truck driver in Lochgilphead that he’d once driven the old road, in a truck – I don’t know how big.
I do know that it’s surprising what a large artic or truck+trailer can negotiate – I wouldn’t have thought they’d cope with the very severe hill and bends at Grogport on the B842 Kintyre east coast route, but they can, I’ve seen them.

  3. Having watched the footage I now feel a bit car sick. I suppose some sort of traffic management system will have to be put in place before it can be used in both directions.
