Did Ron Goudie make it? 100 holes of golf on the longest day?

(Update, YES HE DID.) Ron Goudie, a PGA Golf Professional teaching at The Machrie on Islay and living on the island, hit upon a magical challenge to raise funds.

He wants to help the Gaelic choirs on Islay to get to the 2012 Royal National MOD in Dunoon.

He is himself a member of the renowned Coisir Ghaidhlig Ile and has sponsorship from most of the island’s distilleries, local and overseas individuals and small  businesses.

But it needs more and the inspiration arrived.

Yesterday morning, on the longest day of the year, Ron Goudie began at sunrise – 4.30am – to try to play no fewer than 100 holes of golf before sunset.

Did he make it? we hope to bring you the news, perhaps some photos and a link to support donations from well wishers for the choirs and for Mr Goudie’s unforgettable imagination and golfing skill.

Update 13.00: Yes he made it and we’ll have the full story, photos and more information for you later.
