Comment posted on Cabinet Secretary welcomes extra UK funding for superfast broadband by Stephen Mackenzie

“Superfast” is a bit of a euphemism, I believe. I found this:

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.culture.gov.uk/images/publications/10-1320-britains-superfast-broadband-future.pdf

But there’s no clear of what “superfast” means. It does say they want universal access to a 2Mbps service as well. Which is more than sufficient, actually, as long as the latency and contention aren’t too bad.

    • To the best of our knowledge, Islay is pretty deprived in this respect.
The Pathfinder North project could not upgrade Islay to the same level as other areas and they were then running at little more than dial-up speeds.
Glendaruel was pretty rubbish as well.
Both of these may be better than they were but they are probably still behind other places – and they will not be alone.
It would be useful if readers from different places noted their speeds. This BBC article has an online test that delivers your online speed almost instantly: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7416471.stm
Note that speed differs almost all the time so producing an average might be more reliable.
