Crazy, if my pointing out as I did that the ‘update’ effectively rubbishes all the trash that Nesie wrote in the original article can be equated to stirring – then I’m delighted to say I’m guilty as charged. :)

Havr a nice day. Have plenty champers – if not in celebration then at least to drown sorrows. Go easy on cartwheels after champers ;)

  • As I said in another post Newsie – when you are wrong you never apologise you just re-write, or invent ‘new facts’, or introduce more red-herrings, or squirm out some new excuse just to try to justify your biased, squalid little piece.

Thanks for illustrating my claim so perfectly. :)

    Have a nice day.

  • Nobody else commenting on Newsie’s climbdown ?? :)

    Crazy????

  • Doncha just luv the update?????

Seriously, does this ‘update’ not effectively undermines all the invented trash spouted in the original article?
After all the facts now appear to be after the decsion was taken by the Cowal Gathering asked for soem revisions, these revisions went back and forth until eventually agreed by all and the document signed. The Cowal Gathering are happy with the process and the process, in Newsie’s words, “has not prejudiced the position of the Games”.

This is either a mistake (and therefore an apology should be issued), or yet another of Newsie’s ‘boorish-and-petty-we-so-wish-this-story-about-one-of-our-seniot-hate-figures-were-true-because-we-and-some-of-the-more-easily-led-on-here-so-desperately-want-it-to-be-true-pieces’.
And “It has emerged” is so obviously the new “We hear”.

    Journalist? Pffft.

Jamie “what a turn around” indeed. St Paul walking to Damascus never had a conversion like this…all total rubbish of course. Just trying to wheedle her way out of a lack of knowledge and insight about what is actually going on.

It looks as thought the Cowal Courier are a direct feed for Walsh and Breslin’sside of things (if you read the story above). So, best Newsie starts sucking up to Robb again as most reckon he’s got his hand up Mccuish’s back and tells him what to say, when.

  • Argyll and Bute Council: Where are we now?
Newsie – you don’t half print some rubbish on here but this self-congratulatory spouting takes the biscuit.

“A major part of what we work to do is to support initiatives at all levels that are focused on regeneration and are driven by positive, creative energies that make things happen.
Campbeltown wins hands down over Kilmory any minute of any day on these criteria – and we never spare ourselves travelling and hard work on a cause that has some hope of going somewhere”.

    Pardon me ere I vomit.

See a few weeks ago you were described this self-same ferry as “A beached whale before it starts”, you added “This has all the hallmarks of the familiar political crash landing of opportunism”.

You also pontificated that “the planned service is an indulgent lifestyle option and is not remotely capable of delivering the economic development that will save Campbeltown”.

You weren’t at the Council meeting and we get that – but get off your moralistic high horse and stop pretending you’ve suddenly been converted to the potential of this ferry.

    Have a nice day.

So, Keith, how’s the ould conspiracies comin on then? :)
  • Argyll and Bute Council: Where are we now?
Newsie “Since we cannot contemplate losing a day to attend a meeting of indeterminate and usually intolerable length, we do not know what happened…”

All right to waste a day going to see a ferry arriving at Campbletown though? That’s much more important right?

If it’s a news update (complete with quotes) you’re looking for – try this site – it’s operated by a journalist apparently…

  • Argyll and Bute Council: Councillor McCuish leads again
Clootie – no use asking Newsie for news.

However, apparently the SNP have suspended two more members – Gordon Blair and Robert McIntyre from Bute(Why they picked on those two Gawd inly knows – unless of course it’s just more mis-information). Breslin is fizzin (so what else new?) at being out manoeuvred (again)and calling all sorts of people all sorts of things (again.).

Meanwhile there is no administration – just a collection of clllrs who all happen to vote the same way on a number of issues… that way the SNP gang who’ve ‘not joined’ the Argyll, Lomond and the Isles group (but will vote with them) look like they are attempting to forge the coalition they wanted to a week ago until the SNP Politburo and their apparatchiks stepped in forbade them to do so.

Because the others in this non-existent coalition have forsaken their groupings (Lib Dems and Tories) the SNP gang are gambling that they will not be expelled.

    Confused ?

No doubt Dave three names, Jnr Ticked off and Webcraft will now all come on to tell us how this was what they planned all along………

  1. Dereliction of Duty perhaps? Is that in his contract?

I mean if this is just a simple mistake, it would be easy enough to just come out and own it. “Me so sorry, my bad” etc etc

…. ah but we are talking about Cleland Sneddon here. A man who even when repeatedly confronted with the truth during the school closures debacle, still could not admit to getting a single thing wrong.

Hmmmm wonder if he has a new calculator yet?

  3. The update appears to imply that the original article was completely inaccurate in which case it would seem to me that it should also be accompanied by apology to the people whose integrity was questioned in the article.

Very poor journalism that an article should be so “wrong” – should check facts before writing.

  4. Sorry to disappoint the as yet illiterate inhabitant of the kindergarten here – but this is no climbdown.
It is the reporting of accurate detail of the length of time it took for senior officers to act upon the decisions of the then Executive Committee – on a matter which determines the ability of a major event to plan and manage its finances.
The decision was taken at the end of September 2011. It was four months before any discussions began with the Cowal Gathering.
There was very little to be done – a few removals form the text of the existing SLA. How long does that take?
With the action already late and obviously dilatory, it ws n ot completed by the time Councillor Dance moved her motion on ‘discrimination against Helensburgh and Lomond’ for the council meeting on 28th June. With the potential of this motion to derail the Service Level Agreement between the council and the Cowal Games, the Agreement could not then be signed until the outcome of the motion was known.
The lack of efficiency, never mind urgency, in senior officers carrying out the executive functions they are paid to do says little about their professionalism, their methodology and their commitment to their work.
It is also careless or ignorant of the business realities affecting an event like the Cowal Gathering. Mid to longer term financial planning is an imperative in today’s world – impossible when such a business cannot demonstrate the certainty of key support until so late a stage.
We reported honestly that the Cowal Gathering was content with the way things had panned out – because it was just that we did so.
This does not mean that the organisation was right to be content – but they are not in a position to be critical in the sort of public sector culture in Argyll and Bute that remains to be enlightened.

  6. Ok, reading the update and comments, must admit to being a bit confused (only one coffee in me this morning and really struggling). The whole thing just leaves me with more questions.

It appears it took a helluva long time for this to be sorted out and payment made. Wonder why? And James Robb is always spot on with finances, wonder what his take is on all this?

I also wonder who is in/who contacted the Games Committee and who issued the statement that they were happy and if all the committee feel this way.

I love a good bit of digging, just as Simon loves a good bit of stirring ;)
